Our #1 Jewelry Organizing Hack for Travel and At Home

If keeping your jewelry organized is something you struggle with, you are definitely not alone! Tangled chains, a missing earring...we’ve all been there. When traveling, it's even easier for your jewelry to become a mess!

We can’t stress how important it is to keep your jewelry stored properly, though. It will prolong the life of your pieces and keep them looking newer for much longer. Plus, when you’re rushing to get ready, you won’t have to search high and low for a tiny stud earring, or the worst: untangle a knot of chains caught on earring posts!

The best thing about organizing your jewelry is that it doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive!

Our #1 organizing hack for both traveling and at home is using small clear plastic zip-top bags to store your pieces individually within a larger case/pouch/box. You can find them online and at craft stores in different sizes and quantities.

For rings, we use the 2” x 3” size. Place one ring in each bag so they don’t get scratched:

          For necklaces
, either a 2” x 3” or 3” x 5” bag works, depending on the size of the pendant. Leave part of the chain out of the bag so it doesn’t get tangled around the pendant - See below:

For earrings, use 2 of the 2” x 3” bags (or 3" x 5", depending on the earring style). Place one earring inside a bag. Then, place this bag inside another bag holding the other earring. You’ll keep the earrings together but they can’t scratch each other!

          For bracelets/watches
, the way to store them will depend on the style. For chain bracelets, use the necklace bag method. For bangles/small watches, simply place them in the appropriate size bag. For large cuffs/watches, you can wrap them in a small piece of bubble wrap within a large enough bag. Easy-peasy!

You can go one step further with organizing by separating your pieces by category in larger bags labeled "Earrings", "Necklaces" and so on. That way, when you're looking for a specific piece, you know exactly where to look!

General Tips for Traveling with
Jewelry:
-
When in doubt, leave your big pieces at home, locked up where they're safe. Wear your wedding band or a stacking ring in place of your engagement ring if you feel you need to wear a ring at all times.

Store your jewelry inside a travel case/zippered pouch to protect your pieces.

- It's a good idea to keep your jewelry away from checked luggage for 2 reasons:

1. Luggage is thrown around, suitcase on top of suitcase, and this could seriously damage your jewelry!

2. Theft: You never know who could get ahold of your luggage, especially if it gets lost/sent to the wrong destination.

If you’re organizing at home, you may want to invest in a jewelry box that has special compartments for earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets, and other accessories, but, you can simply keep the plastic bags inside a decorative box/pouch!
