July babies, it’s time to welcome the gorgeous red ruby with open arms.
The seventh month of the year is its time to shine!
Ruby is a variety of the mineral corundum, just like sapphire. Ruby and sapphire have the same chemical composition and mineral structure. Wait, what?! Yes - that means they are the same gem! Ruby is technically the red version of a sapphire, but we don't call it "red sapphire". What makes other colors of sapphires is trace amounts of other elements, but that's a blog post for another day!

Rubies and sapphires are extremely durable gemstones, measuring 9 on the Mohs hardness scale. Diamond is the only gem harder than these stones. Rubies (and sapphires) make great center stones in "alternative" engagement rings for this reason, aside from the fact that they’re totally gorgeous!
Rubies are included stones, meaning that many have internal marks visible to the eye. The clearer the stone is (like glass), and the brighter the color, the better the quality is and the more expensive the stone will be.
Did you know? Stacking is one of this year's HOTTEST trends!
Get creative with your ring stack by mixing and matching different ring designs:
A ruby’s red color makes it a symbol of love, passion, health, and protection. According to an ancient belief, wearing a ruby against the skin could keep you healthy and protected. That's a pretty good reason to treat yourself to new ruby jewelry, don't you think?!
Like emeralds, actress Elizabeth Taylor wore some of the most amazing ruby jewels. A lavish gift from her husband was the Cartier Ruby Suite, which included a ruby and diamond necklace fit for a queen, along with earrings and a bracelet to match. According to Forbes, this collection may have been worth around $600,000!
